Edexcel IGCSE News

Page last updated 18/07/2005

We are delighted that Edexcel have made their IGCSEs (with coursework-free option) available to home-educated children. Mathematics is available in 2004. More subjects are to follow from Summer 2005.

Please don't telephone Edexcel directly: private candidates can be 'labour intensive' for examining boards and full information is available on Edexcel International's website at www.edexcel-international.org. (Free internet access should be available in your public library).

From Summer 2005 the following subjects will be available:

  • Biology
  • Business Studies
  • Chemistry
  • English Language
  • English Literature
  • Geography
  • History
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Specifications and other information are available on Edexcel International's website together with details of exam centres which may be willing to accept private candidates.

General details are available from the HEAS Information Leaflet - Examinations and Qualifications. This leaflet covers GCSE and other exams.

It is likely that more exam centres will be registering in the UK. If you would like to see if a local (independent) school or college will accept your child as a private Edexcel International candidate, these facts should be kept in mind.

  • The college must already be a registered Edexcel centre and have a certain level of business with them.
  • Plenty of notice is needed.
  • Edexcel is not setting up international centres in Local Education Authority schools.
  • If the centre is interested, the college should contact the IGCSE Manager at Edexcel, who, subject to approval, will give the college a special 'international' centre number, beginning with 9.
