Admission is free (education sessions are chargeable – contact them directly for more information). The Museum is situated in a fine Tudor mansion built in the reign of Henry VIII for the Lord Mayor of London, with award-winning gardens.  The Education Service arranges education mornings specifically for home educated children and many of their exhibitions (including activity sheets) are also of interest to home educators.  

There are also Loan Boxes on a range of subjects including Victorian Domestic Life, World War II: the Home Front, the Romans, The Aztecs and the Tudors.  The boxes may be borrowed free of charge by home educators (booking required) and they contain both original and reproduction artefacts and photographs.

Set in an 80-acre site, the Historic Dockyard, Chatham offers a wide range of educational resources, covering 400 of years maritime history.  Attractions include the submarine HMS Ocelot, the Victorian sloop HMS Gannet and the destroyer HMS Cavalier.  Groups may have guided tours of Britain’s only working eighteenth century Ropery.  Audio tours, exhibitions, and many events are available throughout the year and it is possible to organise talks and presentations for groups.  Worksheets and educational packs may be ordered before the visit and there are teachers’ guides on the website which may be downloaded.

There are special rates for educational groups of 10 or more children between the ages of 4 and 18, with an adult admitted free with each group 6 children (up to Year 3) or 10 older children.  Additional adults pay child rate.  Please contact Education Department for current prices. To qualify for the special rates, all educational visits need to be arranged via the Education Department with whom you can discuss and negotiate specific requirements.
